Xiaomi smartphones: why choose this brand?

Xiaomi is known for its aggressive value for money. Whereas with other major brands you often pay for the name, with Xiaomi you pay mostly for the hardware.

The main advantages at a glance:

  • HyperCharge.
Many models fully charge within 15 to 20 minutes.
  • Screen quality
Even in the mid-range (Redmi Note series) you often get an AMOLED screen with 120Hz screen refresh.
  • Includes accessories
Often there are extras in the box such as a case.

Which Xiaomi is right for you? The series explained

Xiaomi launches a lot of phones, which can be confusing. We chop the range for you into three clear pieces:

1. The Xiaomi series - High-end & Flagship Killers

Within the main series (formerly "Mi") you'll find the absolute top phones, but there is an important distinction to be made between two lines:

  • The regular numbers (e.g. Xiaomi 14 / 15 / 17)
These are the true premium flagships. They feature the most powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon processors, the most luxurious body and the very best camera specs. For those who want the best of the best.
  • The T models (e.g. Xiaomi 14T / 15T)
These models often appear a little later in the year. They are a fraction more affordable and are considered the "smart choice. To keep the price down, they are slightly simpler in design and are often powered by high-end MediaTek processors instead of Snapdragon. You compromise slightly on sheer luxury, but get a lot of computing power in return.

2. The Redmi Note series - The Mid-range King

The "Note" models, such as the Redmi Note 14 Pro or 15 Pro, are the brand's most popular phones. They offer 80% of the features of a flagship for half the price. Think 5G, good main cameras and big batteries.

3. The Redmi series - Budget

The models without "Note" or "Pro" in the name (e.g. Redmi 15 or Redmi 15C). These are ideal entry-level models. Don't expect speed monsters, but do expect excellent battery life and a big screen for little money.

4. The Mix series - Innovation & foldables

The Mix series is Xiaomi's testing ground, where design and innovation are paramount. Today, you'll find mostly foldable phones (foldables) here. Think of the compact Xiaomi Mix Flip, a stylish foldable phone that rivals the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip, or the larger Mix Fold models that unfold like a book.

Camera & Software: Leica and HyperOS

Xiaomi stands out strongly in two areas these days. First, its collaboration with Leica on the more expensive models. This provides photos with a unique "look" and excellent color reproduction, even in low light.

In addition, Xiaomi is switching from the old MIUI to the new HyperOS. This operating system is lighter, faster and seamlessly connects your phone with other smart devices in your home. Doubts about a Xiaomi?

A common drawback used to be the amount of ads in the software. In the newer high-end models and with the advent of HyperOS, this has been greatly reduced. Additionally, with Xiaomi you often get more storage memory (e.g. 256GB as standard) for the same price as a 128GB model from the competition.
